With leaves beginning to grow on the trees and warm sunny days (at least some of the time) spring is here which means that summer is soon to follow. As a child, summer was always one of my favorite times of the year because not only did it mean freedom from the four walls of the classroom, but it also meant afternoons spent at the park, swimming at the lake and of course fun church activities such as Vacation Bible School and summer camp.
I didn't have many close friends at church so when it came time to sign up for VBS and camp, I invited friends to come along. Not only did we have a great time together but it was a fun and easy way for me to share my church life with friends who often times didn't go to church at all. A few of their families even began to go to church after a week at camp or VBS.
Last summer about half of the kids that came to our summer programs were friends, guests and neighbors of LCC members. For some of these kids it was the first time they had ever heard that Jesus loved them. It can be intimidating to invite friends and neighbors to an event at church, but many parents are looking for opportunities to get their children involved in camps and programs to help fill the long summer days.
We intentionally plan summer youth and children programs to be outreach-friendly in hopes that you, our LCC members, will take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to reach out to those around you. A week of camp or VBS truly can make a difference in the life of a child.
Please consider who you might invite to join the summer fun here at LCC this summer.
